An update on the weekend's work

My first weekend activity went very smoothly - it was actually the one I was feeling most inadequate about - it was something I've never done before & I was doing it solo, without anyone else from my team in attendance. But it was a breeze & the only reason why it didn't finish ahead of schedule was because we had to stick to some published downtimes, so there was about 90 minutes of waiting in the middle of the project. My second thing on Friday was also very smooth, and only took me about 40 minutes. Which is good, because I was feeling really sleepy by the time I needed to start it.We're in the midst of the Saturday project, and it looks like I used up all the smoothness for projects this weekend on Friday. I actually called into the thing earlier than I'd planned (the project started at 7:30, although my part wasn't supposed to start until 2:30.) It's now close to 5:30pm, and I have yet to do anything except make snarky comments & clean out my work email. They're running 3.5 hours behind schedule, and I suspect it's just going to keep falling further and further behind.Meanwhile, I think I'm going to lose about 6 precious inches of garden space all around my patio. And the workers have decided to use my patio as the dumping ground for all the dirt they're digging up for the trenches. I'm trying to ignore it all, because everything will be pretty and lovely once they're done. Right?

Why I really enjoy great weekends

(I meant to post this here yesterday - boy am I really failing when it comes
to copying my blurty posts over here.)

This coming weekend is part of why
I really enjoyed the last two weekends when I saw friends, played games, ate
good food, and didn't think about work at all.

Here is my schedule
(starting today, because I say so)
Friday 6am-2pm - normal work day
Friday
2:30pm-7:30pm - work project to merge two internal systems
Friday
10:00pm-11:30pm - work project to upgrade directory control software on
different internal system
Saturday 2:30pm-9:00pm - work project to move
customer systems from Michigan to Missouri
Sunday 2:30pm-4:30pm - work
project to relabel volumes on yet another internal system.

It could, of
course, be worse. I originally thought the Sunday activity started at
2:30am.

A garden update

[preface]I've arbitrarily decided to try keeping all three journals up-to-date. I expect this surge of energy & egomania to last about 3 posts, so the previous entry's warning still applies.[/preface]

This afternoon my doorbell rang. It turned out it was one of the guys who will be building the wall that's going to replace my fence. He told me that they needed to dig a trench a foot wide to pour the concrete, and therefore the plants that I'd left in (on the assurance of my association's grounds guy that I didn't need to move them) needed to be pulled out. The japanese maple. The juniper bush/tree/bonsai. The three-tiered bush. The bouganvilla. The rose bush. All needed to be pulled out. And all of my big pots were being used for all the things we'd pulled out on the Fourth.

So I had to scramble to find things (mostly big cardboard boxes) to use as temporary homes for all my favorites. I'm a little skeptical about whether they'll all survive - and since I think this wall is going to chew up more of my garden plot than the fence did, that might be just as well.

All in all, it made for a frantic & slightly depressing afternoon.

A warning to anyone actually thinking of stalking me here

My impetus in creating this was I wanted to reply to one of bettie's blog entries & I knew that was going to be a regular desire. Since 95% of the time I forget to sign my anonymous posts, creating this blog so I could reply un-anonymously easily seemed the sensible decision.

Of course, I haven't had coffee yet, so my judgement on what is sensible might not be very strong.

And since I'm here anyhow, a complaint: this morning my PC started off with a CHKDSK scan. I have no idea why, but it did & it did say it was repairing some files & recovering some orphaned ones and such. I was a little fearful as the system came up, but all seemed fine. Until I went into my favorites to check out some of my favorite stalkees' blogs. My list of sites has been seriously truncated! And I'm so forgetful I can't even tell who I'm missing... it's very aggravating.
